Marion, Gaby, KSCR Presents, HoPUK & This Mortal Coil

This week marked the debut of a collaboration between USC's journalism school and KSCR, in which the first 20 minutes Tuesdays with Maura will be a live broadcast of Annenberg Radio News programs produced and hosted by journalism students. You can find out more about Annenberg Radio News and their coverage of neighborhoods near USC on their website, www.annenbergradio.org.

I kind of fell in love with This Mortal Coil's Blood last week, so I wove some favorites of it into my brief set of new releases. Here's what I played and the guest set by Marion Hodges in honor of the first Hungry Beat dance night at Pehrspace this Saturday. 9/16 Set List - try the links for youtube gems

The Wedding Present play Los Angeles at the Troubador Friday 9/19, supported by Earlimart. In their honor, I rebroadcast the interview and live acoustic set they recorded with me over the summer. I ran out of time to play my Rain Parade LP in honor of the Paisley Underground, though I did throw in "Salvador Dali's Garden Party" by the TVPs because it mentions wearing "a brand new paisley shirt" and it's one of my favorite songs ever. I played Blank Blue to celebrate the release of the Dive EP on Ubiquity with Flying Lotus remixes.

Next week I'll broadcast a guest DJ set by Marion to promote the new Hungry Beat soul and indie pop dance night at Pehrspace that kicks off this Saturday 9/27. I'll also be playing music by bands playing the KSCR sponsored concert on the USC campus that same night 9/27.

Oh, and The Hearts of Palm UK album For Life is set to drop at college radio stations across the country 9/23, so I'll be giving it love, too, of course.

Anyway here's the setlist from 9/16. I tried to fit in lots of new things at the station including a new Mogwai single:

The station's general manager set this up for KSCR's music department. I've added some of the summer favorites at the station. The guy from Sterns Music sent us the Balla et ses Balladins compilation, The Syliphone Years along with the beautiful Mayra Andrade release Navega.

Check this link and listen the KSCR Summer Hits mix.
